Eh, I think your professor was either misinformed or needed a good excuse. If a family is out and wish to distribute candy, they merely need to place a large bucket of candy in a well-lit location on their porch, and place a note "two candies per child, please!". Likelihood of egging or t-p-ing is very low anyhow, tons of people don't celebrate Halloween for religious reasons.

That's what I told him and he said that what happens is one of the first groups of kids takes the whole jar and then it goes back to the same thing.
It might be his neighborhood, though. I know he hates that place and the house (owning a house there) and wants to move away anyway.

And maybe he needed an excuse.

The sign should be: "Don't be greedy, take one or two or we put a trick on you!".

The likelyhood of egging is pretty low.
Actually if house has no lights it's a signal that there are no candies there, so kids don't even come close to the house (time is money... ehhh... candies, and there are plenty of candy houses with lights on).

Thank you for the idea. I'll leave candy outside next year with a note on Halloween eve.
